Light Up Your Life With Aromatherapy Candles

Candles are a practical yet beautiful light and heat source. Not only are they beautiful, they also add an ambient touch to a romantic evening, add an air of relaxation and calmness at bath time and provide a sense of comfort. Candles are often used in religious ceremonies, in meditation and in so many other applications where a sense of enlightenment, relaxation or calm is sought and desired.

As aromatherapy candles burn they release a slight but continuous stream of herbal and floral essential oils into the air. As you breathe the chemicals from these oils, they travel through the body, brain and bloodstream. From this you will receive subtle benefits as the chemicals interact with the body. Lighting a candle will provide the same benefits inherent in conventional aromatherapy products but in less concentrated doses.

Burning aromatherapy candles can also alter, enhance, and improve your state of mind while adding a touch of nature's pure perfume to your surroundings. Candles are a pleasant and powerful quick fix to alleviate the effects from a stressful day, some physical and emotional aliments and provide a sense of serenity.

So what make an aromatherapy candle different from other candles? Basically it comes down to the wax that is used. Holistic aromatherapy candles are made from beeswax, soy, and other vegetable based waxes such as bayberry most commonly used by those environmentally conscious and those involved in aromatherapy. Each ingredient has its own characteristics. Soy is a soft wax and most commonly used in votive or tea lights. Larger soy candles would be contained in a glass jar or another type of decorative container. Beeswax on the other hand is much firmer and more expensive. It has a very distinctive but pleasant honey-like aroma and color.

It requires a significant amount of essential oil to be detectable in a candle and to achieve the different effects. If you are looking to be invigorated, than the mint essential oils such as peppermint, spearmint, basil, and eucalyptus will provide a quick stimulation, revitalization, and an extra dose of energy. Other invigorating essential oils include cedar, rosemary, cinnamon, geranium, cassia, and vanilla. If you are looking to be relaxed than the stress-releasing essential oils include lavender, chamomile, patchouli, geranium and rose. Citrus essential oils such as lemon, orange, grapefruit, lemongrass, and bergamot will help your ability to concentrate.

As with any product, selecting aromatherapy candles is solely based on an individual's need and the effects they are looking to receive from them.
